How to Find Your Dream Job

Saturday, November 7th, 2009

When you used to be a child or a teen, did you dream of what you’d be when you grew up? Many of us had dreams when we were young, but what percentage of us really fulfill them? Many of us set our dreams aside when fact kicks in and sadly for most those dreams stay buried forever. Though the dream could be buried, the sensation that things might be different, that there has to be more to life, never actually goes away. So, it’s not surprising to find you have reached a point in life where you are hunting for something better, but not certain how to go reach it.

Maybe the original dream is still there, or maybe it’s been replaced by a new one. You are feeling stuck in a dull job, which could have been fascinating once, but no longer holds much appeal. But you have bills to pay, responsibilities to meet and there looks to be terribly little one can do to switch your current position. Change can appear overwhelming in the face of mortgages, household bills, debt and the responsibilities of bringing up a family. This is especially true if the change of career or job which we are trying for needs further study or coaching. It’s not critical to do everything right now. It is possible to break down the mandatory steps into controllable chunks and move steadily towards our goals. If you’re in a feels like a not possible situation, it is important to look at your abilities and ambitions and then discover a way of heading towards your goals, one step at a time. Research the roles and careers which interest you and have a look at exactly what must be done to reach your dream. What’s the first step, something which you might do today? If you want to go to a different sort of job, is there anything you can do to prepare yourself? Maybe you want to bone up on the industry or talk to folk already working in it.

If you want to retrain, consider beginning with a short introductory course. This could get you into the habit of studying and will also help you in deciding if the topic is for you before you invest a large amount of cash in a lengthy course. If you do have a substantial quantity of study in front of you, look at techniques of doing it part time or by remote learning, which will permit you to remain in your present job. Look at ways that you can create more time so you can target your studies or research your options. Cut out needless activities and see if you can convince other household members to help out more with daily jobs. Heading towards a new career may involve short term sacrifice, but if the alternative is spending the remainder of your life in a job you do not enjoy, the choice to modify will be straightforward.
